Work on paper
I have used my own lino-block imagery to decorate and print the slabs I prepare for handbuilding my clay vessels for many years. I have become interested in using these images as direct prints on paper. Working on the 2-d surface is a challenge after working with the curved surface of pots for so long. The image must stand alone on a flat surface without a decent pot to support it which is a little unsettling.
However am having fun with the direct and immediate results in making the images. The ability to add colour, line, combine images and other materials on a whim, without the time needed to glaze and fire clay, is so freeing. I feel this work is helping me revive my aesthetic which intuition sometimes comes second to the technical demands of the clay process.
