Figurative Clay
One compelling challenge in my studio practice is exploring making animal and human figures. This kind of work provides a big contrast in handling the clay from vessel making to interpreting animate beings. The building is different, the finishing is different and the artistic expression is different. I feel each modality informs the other and as a result I am always learning. This is important: striving for the work to be resolved and well made yet fun and lively. The subject matter in this work is linked to my curiosity about the world around me.
