SGraffito

Drawing is the one skill I posses where I have the most fun. I have always loved to draw. In the ceramic process, a very dynamic method for illustrating on pots is to use sgraffito ( from the Italian to scratch). Here I make simple white ware that is covered with black slip and then remove the black to reveal the underlying white clay and the image is revealed. It is hugely fun to design vessels with images that are reduced to this monochromatic pallet. Once again this work provides contrast in its production to my other vessels and figures and hones more of my skill set.

The design making for this sgraffito work led me to the lino-block carving I use to print both clay and paper.
